Basma scarves are an expression of beauty, femininity and creativity. Defined by a natural delicacy, hand painted strokes are digitised onto silk. This marriage of traditional artistry with digital innovation is at the heart of the Basma vision. All our scarves are crafted from pure silk, chosen for its natural movement and fluidity against the body.
Basma Design was born out of the designer’s passion for collecting scarves. With a background in design and marketing, Basma Alshather takes much of her inspiration from architecture and linear form. A former ceramicist, her work is displayed across the globe, from New Zealand to Japan. She is a mentor with The Prince’s Trust, helping young people to build their own businesses.
Since turning her hand to printmaking, Basma has seen her creativity head in a more experimental direction. Defined by a dreamlike, thought provoking aesthetic, Basma’s creative process is best described as spontaneous and intuitive. Exploration into colour and texture translates into geometric lines that take on a fluid form. The viewer is invited to translate the simplicity or complexity of the image as they desire. The result is beautifully wearable silk accessories that take on the personality of the individual.
